Fused Magnesia (FM) is produced by electrically melting caustic calcined magnesia, dead burned magnesia, or raw magnesite in an electric arc furnace. To achieve the optimal product quality, the melting temperature must exceed 2750°C. Due to its modified crystalline structure, fused magnesia offers superior performance compared to alternative materials.
Fused magnesia is categorized into White Fused Magnesia (WFM) and Brown Fused Magnesia (BFM):
White Fused Magnesia (WFM, White): High purity and excellent volume stability, making it suitable for higher temperatures and more demanding environments. It is mainly used in high-end refractory bricks and glass furnaces.
Brown Fused Magnesia (BFM, Brown): Characterized by large crystals, dense structure, and strong corrosion resistance, making it an excellent basic refractory material. It is widely used in steelmaking, electric arc furnaces, and cement kilns, offering high cost-effectiveness for general refractory and monolithic applications.
