Brown Fused Alumina for Ceramics is used to enhance mechanical strength, wear resistance, and thermal shock stability of ceramic components. It is mostly applied in fine grain sizes to blend into ceramic matrix materials or functional coatings.
In technical ceramics, China BFA powder is used to improve mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance in kiln furniture, insulators, and wear-resistant ceramic components. Affordable alternative to white fused alumina or tabular alumina in non-critical applications, especially in bulk formulation.
1. Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC)
Brown fused alumina particles or powders are added as reinforcing fillers to high-performance ceramics such as alumina ceramics and silicon nitride ceramics to improve their flexural strength, fracture toughness and wear resistance. It is especially suitable for structural ceramics (engineering ceramics), high-temperature electrical insulation ceramics and other fields.
2. Ceramic Coatings
Ceramic coating raw materials used in plasma spraying and thermal spraying processes, play the role of wear-resistant layer, heat insulation layer, anti-corrosion layer, etc. ; form a protective ceramic layer on the surface of mechanical parts, pump bodies, and valve bodies.
3. Electrical Ceramics
Adding brown fused alumina fine powder can improve the thermal shock resistance and mechanical strength of electrical ceramic products and extend their service life; it is often used as an additive material for medium and high voltage insulators.
4. Ceramic Filters
Coarse BFA particles can be used as a filter ceramic support layer material for casting metal liquid filtration, industrial wastewater filtration and other scenarios; providing high temperature resistance, high permeability and stable physical support.
5. Functional Ceramics
As a thermal conductivity enhancement material in infrared heating ceramics and electric heating ceramic elements, it is especially suitable for the field of far-infrared ceramic heaters; with stable particle size and high thermal conductivity, it is suitable for high-performance ceramic design.
BFA -200 mesh or -325 mesh for fine powder in ceramic base formulations
Coarser blends like 0–0. 5 mm or 0–1 mm for kiln furniture or structural ceramics
Fine particle size helps with even dispersion, smooth surface texture, and better sintering behavior.
